#NYFW | RAISA VANESSA F/W 20

From the minds of Turkish designers, Raisa & Vanessa Sason, we are taken on a voyage through desert sunsets and Middle Eastern sand dunes for RAISA VANESSA’s Fall/Winter 2020. With a color palette kissed with mythical iridescence and constructed in metallic Lamé fabric, this is the perfect collection for the confident and alluring woman fairytales and dreams are made of.

Thanks to the production and show direction by Ugurhan Akdeniz, show attendees were granted a first class ticket to Istanbul from the comfort of Spring Studios. By lighting the runway gold with a large spotlighted “sun” back drop, it was easy to envision the models walking on sand in their own version of One Thousand and One Nights.

Speaking of walking, I would like to bring up the boots, everyones favorite stand out accessory in this collection. Whether they were rhinestone trimmed and leopard printed, knee-high and laced or simply covered in velvet, boots stole the runway show. If you know a powerful woman, you know she can never have too many boots.

Thought the collection there is a constant layering by design that is seamlessly weaved in with the collection’s traditional Turkish influence. Most designers thing of layering garments after construction and for styling only purposes, but Raisa Vanessa stick to their roots and have used draping and garment construction to their advantage to create movement and depth. For example, let’s look at the orange sunset pant and duster set, the fabric is wrapped at the waist and hips to accentuate the shape of the wearer without creating bulk and still created a modernized harem trouser.

There are so many references to traditional Turkish and Ottoman Empire style clothing throughout this collection. The “Flamboyance” or usage of colorful, embroidered and bright clothing is one of the things that Turkish culture is known and it is seen in every piece. I really appreciate the appeal in this collection. I could talk about it all for days.

P.s.- I am in love with the leopard print look with the long cape duster and the use of triangular door-knocker earrings.

Here are some of my favorite looks and my favorite set design of the season.
